Safe Babywearing Starts Here

T Tight

The carrier should hold your baby snugly against your body. Loose fabric can cause your baby to slump, restricting their airway.

I In view at all times

Always be able to see your baby's face by glancing down. Never cover their face with fabric or a hood.

C Close enough to kiss

Your baby should be positioned so you can kiss their head by simply tilting your chin down — no bending required.

K Keep chin off chest

Ensure at least two fingers of space between your baby's chin and their chest at all times to keep the airway open.

S Supported back

Your baby's back should be supported in its natural C-curve. The carrier panel must support their whole back from bottom to neck.

Getting Started

Adjusting Your Carrier

A well-fitted carrier is comfortable for you and safe for your baby. Take a few minutes to get the fit right — it makes every carry easier from the start.

Step 1 image

Step 1

Loosen All Straps

Before you begin, loosen the shoulder straps, chest clip, and waist belt completely. Starting with everything loose makes it easier to fit the carrier correctly and safely.

Step 2 image
2
Step 2

Fit the Waist Belt

Position the waist belt just above your hip bones — not around your waist. Fasten the buckle and tighten until it sits snugly and flat against your body with no twists.

Step 3 image

Step 3

Adjust the Shoulder Straps

Slip the shoulder straps over your shoulders and fasten the chest clip at mid-chest height. Pull the adjustment straps evenly until the carrier feels secure but comfortable — you should be able to breathe freely.

💡
Good to know

The waist belt should carry the majority of your baby's weight — not your shoulders. A correctly fitted waist belt transforms how comfortable babywearing feels, especially for longer carries.

Step 4 image

Step 4

Check the M-Position

Your baby's knees should sit higher than their bottom, with legs spread in a natural frog-like position — this is the ergonomic M-position. It supports healthy hip development from newborn through toddler age.

Step 5 image

Step 5

Run the TICKS Safety Check

Before every carry, run through the TICKS checklist above. The carrier panel should reach the base of your baby's skull, supporting the natural C-curve of their spine. Their chin should never rest on their chest.

⚠️
Safety reminder

Never carry your baby in a forward-leaning position (e.g. bending over to pick something up) without supporting them with your hand. Always hold baby securely when changing position.

02

Most popular carry

Front Carry — Facing Inward

The inward-facing carry is the ideal starting position for all ages. Your baby stays calm, supported, and close — and you stay hands-free and comfortable.

Step 1 image

Step 1

Put On the Carrier

Fit the waist belt and shoulder straps as described in the Adjusting guide above. Keep the shoulder straps slightly loose for now — you will tighten them once baby is in position.

Step 2 image
2
Step 2

Hold Baby Against Your Chest

Hold your baby upright against your chest with their legs straddling your body. Their chest should rest against yours, face turned slightly to one side so the airway stays clear.

Step 3 image

Step 3

Lower Baby into the Carrier

While holding baby securely with one hand, use your other hand to guide them into the carrier seat. Ensure the knees are higher than the bottom in the M-position, with the back panel supporting their entire back.

Step 4 image

Step 4

Tighten and Secure

Pull the shoulder straps snugly and adjust the chest clip so the carrier feels secure. Your baby should be held high enough that you can kiss their head by lowering your chin — no bending needed.

💡
Perfect for bonding

The inward-facing carry is ideal from birth. Your baby can hear your heartbeat, feel your warmth, and see your face — exactly what they need in their first months of life.

Step 5

Final Safety Check

Run through TICKS before you move. Check the airway is clear, baby's chin is off their chest, and the panel reaches the base of their skull. Once you are satisfied, you are ready to go.

From 4–6 months

Front Carry — Facing Outward

When your baby is ready to explore the world, the outward-facing carry lets them see everything while staying safe and supported in your arms.

ℹ️
When is baby ready?

Outward carrying is suitable when your baby can hold their head independently and shows strong neck control — typically from 4 to 6 months. Always check with your paediatrician if you are unsure.

Step 1 image
1
Step 1

Prepare the Carrier

Put on the carrier as usual with the waist belt fitted snugly above your hip bones. Keep the shoulder straps slightly looser than normal — you will need a little extra room to turn baby around safely.

Step 2 image
2
Step 2

Turn Baby to Face Outward

Hold your baby facing away from you against your chest. Gently lower them into the carrier seat facing outward, ensuring their bottom rests in the seat with legs spread in the M-position.

Step 3 image
3
Step 3

Adjust for Outward Carry

The carrier panel should sit across your baby's chest, not their face. Tighten shoulder straps evenly until baby sits high and close. The seat should form a natural hammock shape supporting their thighs.

Step 4 image
4
Step 4

Check Comfort and Posture

Your baby's weight should be distributed evenly across their thighs and seat — not hanging from the crotch. Their spine should remain in a natural neutral position. You should feel comfortable with no pulling on your shoulders.

⚠️
Time limit and signs to watch for

We recommend limiting outward carries to 1–2 hours at a time. Watch for signs of overstimulation: fussiness, arching back, turning their head away. When in doubt, switch back to inward carry for comfort.

04

For confident wearers

Back Carry

The back carry gives you complete freedom of movement for longer outings. Take your time to learn the transfer — it becomes second nature quickly.

💡
Before you begin

We recommend practising back carrying with a second adult nearby until you feel fully confident. A mirror can help you check baby's position during the transfer.

Step 1 image
1
Step 1

Prepare the Carrier

Loosen all straps fully and put on the waist belt. Position it just above your hip bones. Keep the shoulder straps loose and the back panel folded down in front of you.

Step 2 image
2
Step 2

Start on Your Hip

Hold your baby on your hip with their legs straddling your waist. This is your safe starting position before the transfer to your back. Make sure you have a firm grip before moving.

Step 3 image
3
Step 3

Swing Baby to Your Back

In one smooth, controlled movement, swing your baby from your hip to your back. Their chest should rest between your shoulder blades. Lean forward slightly to keep them in place while you secure the straps.

Step 4 image
4
Step 4

Secure the Shoulder Straps

Still leaning forward, reach behind to pull the carrier panel up over your baby's back. Slip your arms through the shoulder straps and fasten the chest clip. Tighten the straps evenly, alternating sides to keep baby centred.

Step 5 image
5
Step 5

Stand Up and Adjust

Slowly stand upright. Baby's weight should settle into the waist belt. Do a final check: knees higher than bottom, panel supporting their entire back, head resting naturally. Tighten any remaining loose straps.

⚠️
Safety first

Never attempt a back carry transfer near stairs, on uneven ground, or when you are tired. Always check that your baby's airway is clear after the transfer and before you begin walking.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start using the Mirevella Embrace?

The Mirevella Embrace can be used from birth — from 3.6 kg (8 lbs) up to 20 kg (44 lbs), for ages 0–36 months. For newborns, always use the inward-facing carry and ensure the carrier panel reaches the base of your baby's skull for full head and neck support.

What age and weight range is the Mirevella Embrace for?

0–36 months. The carrier supports babies from 3.6 kg (8 lbs) — newborn carry — up to 20 kg (44 lbs) — toddler carry.

Is the carrier safe for newborns?

Yes. The Mirevella Embrace is designed with newborn safety in mind. It supports the ergonomic M-position and natural C-curve of the spine from day one. Always follow the TICKS guidelines before every carry and use the included newborn insert for babies under 5 kg. The Mirevella Embrace is tested to ASTM F2236-24 and CPSIA standards.

Is the Mirevella Embrace tested for chemical safety?

Yes. The Mirevella Embrace tests free of lead in paint and surface coatings, lead in all substrate materials, and all eight regulated phthalates. We can share the full test report on request — email info@mirevella.com.

How long can my baby face outward?

We recommend limiting outward-facing carries to 1–2 hours at a time. Outward carrying exposes babies to more stimulation than they are used to, which can lead to overtiredness. Watch for signs of overstimulation such as fussiness, arching their back, or turning their head away.

Can both parents use the same carrier?

Yes. The Mirevella Embrace has fully adjustable shoulder straps and waist belt to accommodate different body sizes. Simply loosen all straps between wearers and re-adjust for the perfect fit. Most couples find it takes less than a minute to swap.

Can I breastfeed while babywearing?

Many parents breastfeed in the Mirevella Embrace. Loosen the shoulder straps slightly and lower baby into position. After feeding, always return baby to an upright position with their airway clear before securing the carrier again.

How do I wash the Mirevella Embrace?

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Do not tumble dry — lay flat or hang to air dry away from direct sunlight. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Metal buckles can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Regular washing keeps the fabrics fresh and the carrier hygienic.
